CD Burner Help
The following gives instructions for backing up single directories
from a user's account to a CD-R or CD-RW. Other features of the
cd-writer are not supported or explained. It is the responsibility of
the user to obtain CD media on which to backup their directories.
Note: Do not use xlock while burning CDs. The auto logout
feature of xlock may cause unexpected results.
- Login to any of the machines given in this
list.
- Run
/usr/bin/xcdroast The following application
should appear. You must first master an image of your directory.
Select the Create CD button from the left side.

- Select Master Tracks button. From the file listing
presented select the directory that will be written to the CD media.
Press Add button. The full path should show up in the text box
labeled Session view. Choose Image directory
/scratch/cdimages from the drop-down box on top of the
window. Then choose Create session/image tab. Press
Calculate size button. A dialog window will open displaying the
status. Once completed press the OK button of the dialog
window.

- Fill in the text box labeled File prefix: with a unique
name. Since all the mastered images are stored in the same location
it would be a good idea to use your user ID as the filename. This
will prevent unwanted overwrites. Press the Master to image
file button. A dialog window will open displaying the status of
the mastering. Once completed press the OK button of the
dialog window. Then press the Write Tracks button from the
left side.

- Select your master image from the Layout tracks tab. Press
Add. Select the write speed, our cd-writer supports 8x writing.
Then press Accept track layout button. The application will
switch to Write tracks tab.

- If you have a CD-RW make sure it is blank. Simply press Blank
CD-RW button. Make sure your blank CD-R or CD-RW is in the
cd-writer and press Write tracks.
Note: The performance of the cd-writer can be affected by
computationally intensive processes.

- After the cd-writer is done, make sure you delete your master
image. Press the Delete Tracks button on the left side.
Select your master image, then press Delete selected tracks.

- You may exit the program by pressing Back to main menu and
then Exit
