Users of the Computer Science department systems should be aware of the College's rules concerning the use of computing resources. The following list enumerates activities which are expressly prohibited on systems on the Computer Science department network. This list is meant to supplement, not replace, the rules stated in the Handbook.

Your use of any Computer Science department computing resources is conditioned upon your being aware of these policies. The following activities are explicitly forbidden on Computer Science department systems. Engaging in any may result in the loss of your Computer Science department account.

  1. Any illegal action.
  2. Attempting to crack an account on any system (this means trying to access any account on any system for which you have no authorization).
  3. Providing information which allows another to hack at our systems.
  4. Falsifying E-mail (or netnews) headers.
  5. Any commercial activity.
  6. Chain letters.
  7. Spamming newsgroups or individuals (sending lots of bogus articles to newsgroups or lots of E-mail to an individual in order to disrupt the newsgroup or annoy the individual).
  8. Using another's account for the purpose of printing.
  9. Disconnecting any departmental computing equipment from power or network.
  10. Connecting unauthorized equipment to the departmental computing network.
