Course Description

Wireless network is everywhere and will be more prevalent in the years to come. This course is a seminar class on wireless networks. The tentative plan is to cover three parts: data streaming or massive data processing techniques, wireless networking and pervasive computing systems, and security and privacy. All three components will be explored in the context of wireless networks.

Students are expected to gain the basic knowledge about wireless networks and do in-depth exploration in one of the related topics. The class is composed of three parts:
  1. Paper Reading: The main part of this class will be paper reading and class discussion. Each student needs to read all the assigned papers and write reviews for some of them.
  2. Experiment: We have got a real sensor network testbed. Each student is required to learn how to program Motes (sensors designed by Berkeley) and gain first hand experience in a real wireless network.
  3. Project: Each student should choose a topic in wireless network, do research on it, and write a research paper.

More generally, students are also expected to learn how to read papers critically and how to do research.

Prerequisites: This is a graduate course. Basic knowledge about networking and programming is required.

Grading: 5% Class Participation, 20% Presentations, 25% Paper review and experiments, 50% Term Project
